More than a thousand people (over 150 in person at the RAC headquarters and over 900 via streaming from 20 countries) attended the annual presentation of the work of the iDanae Chair, created as part of the collaboration between the Polytechnic University of Madrid and Management Solutions, that featured RAC academics and representatives from the teaching and business sectors
The event was chaired by Ms. Ana María Crespo, President of the RAC, Mr. Guillermo Cisneros, Chancellor of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), Ms. Ernestina Menasalvas, UPM Professor and Chair Director, and Mr. Alfonso Serrano-Suñer, President of Management Solutions, and included the participation of RAC academics and representatives from the teaching and business worlds.
Presentation of the iDanae Chair’s work
During the event, Ms. Ernestina Menasalvas reviewed the work carried out during the iDanae Chair’s fifth year of existence (the iDanae Chair was created in 2019 as a result of collaborative work between UPM and Management Solutions in the educational, scientific and technical fields).
The event included a Master Session by Mr. Esteban Domingo, Vice President of the RAC, and Mr. Federico Morán, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the UCM, who both presented how Artificial Intelligence is being used in the field of research, specifically in the fields of virology and biomedicine; and a panel discussion moderated by Mr. José María Fuster, President of the Association of Friends of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Honorary Academician of the RAC, Professor ad honorem of the UPM and Advisor to the Chair´s Monitoring Committee, with the participation of Ms. Beatriz García, Head of Communication and CSR at Rovi, and Mr. Manuel Ángel Guzmán, Partner in charge of R&D at Management Solutions, as well as Ms. Ernestina Menasalvas, who discussed the use of AI in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, incorporating the industry's opinion.
The awards organized by the iDanae Chair during the year were also presented: the award for the best initiative in AI for high school students interested in science careers (awarded to Mr. Asier Gómez, with runners-up Mr. Santiago Suárez, Mr. Daniel Salete and Ms. Pía Claro), the award for the STEM student with the best grade in EvAU (awarded to Ms. Julia Huergo, with runners-up Ms. Cristina Pérez del Río, Ms. Ángela Prada and Ms. Daniela Agudo), and the iDanae Award to the student with the best record in the Master's Degree in Computer Engineering at the UPM (previously received by Mr. Alberto Pérez at an awards ceremony at the UPM).
The event was closed by Mr. Guillermo Cisneros and Ms. Ana María Crespo.
